  1. Excellent video showing the process of making soil blocks. I liked being able to see how wet the soil needs to be to make the blocks.

I purchased my first soil block maker from you about a week ago and can't wait to use it.

  2. Thank you! Let us know how it works out. Think peanut butter when you mix the soil. I liked that line from the clip.

  3. Good video... But there's a minor mistake in the text. The smallest tool makes 20 three-quarter-inch cubes, not one-quarter-inch cubes.

  4. Frustrating that there is no easy way to click directly over to the jss website from this post.

  5. Regarding the soil block makers, the video was good, but did not mention how to water the blocks during growth to prevent breakdown of the soil block. I have used 2-inch blocks in the past and have always placed them on a self-watering mat. Is there another way (e.g., direct sprinkling, soaking in a tub)?

  6. Tips for watering soil blocks:
To prevent erosion, watering should be done (especially at first) with a fine rose diffuser either on the end of a hose at low pressure or out of a watering can. If the rose is not fine enough, the mini blocks especially should be misted. Eventually all blocks will firm up, especially after they fill with roots, and normal watering can be accomplished through any fine sprinkler. Extra attention to watering is a general rule in successful blocking culture that will be repaid by the performance of the seedlings.
